Tribute

On the pages of my life,
words were written with care-
and painfully they documented
my despair.

Shame, confusion and anger too
my heart was broken
right down the middle-
cut clean through.

There was no way out,
or so I thought
peace from the madness
was my only want.

That was when I remember
you came along,
and filled my shattered life
with a happy song-

From you I learned
that I really did have worth
and that to be loved,
I had to love me first.

I don't know if I thanked
you lately for all you
have done, so maybe it's
time that I begun.

I want to thank you for
being my best friend, even when
I don't deserve it, you are there
with a hand to lend.

In my heart is where
you will always reside,
because of you my friend,
I survive!
