Dark Cloud Edged With Brilliant Light
Dark cloud edged
With brilliant light,
Who comprehends its mysteries?
I, hunched against a Greek temple alone, wonder.
Brightness, heat, comfort, I sigh, loosen
Shadow, cool, cold: I chill, wonder more
Proportions of a universe of all
Incomprehensible yet vitally realizable
Do I say, then, to realize the being of mysteries is all
And the fool who struggles to comprehend?
No.
Confusion, I must struggle, chill.
All of all, only one being knows
For I contemplate one wholly real fact.
I comprehend solely a minute fraction
Of the mysteries of my own being
And desperately grasp for more,
Vital and lifelong.
