Many Faces
I know the many faces of me
And none of them is mine
I know what I want the world to see
That I’m just doing fine
Inside I’m not, but I won’t show
Any weakness or any fear
‘Cause I can’t let them hurt me again
I won’t let them get too near
I’ll put on a face that says I’m happy
I’ll cover up the pain
I’ll put on a face that says I’m strong
So they won’t think that I’m insane
I’ll put on a face of confidence
Yes, I can get the job done
I’ll put on a face of victory
When I know I haven’t won
I’ll put on a face that shows them nothing
When the pain inside’s too much
But all these faces that I put on
I know they’re just a crutch
I lean on them so I won’t have to
Let anyone see the real me
I lean on them so I’ll feel safe
But leaning won’t make me free
I must drop the faces, break the masks
Never wear them again
Be open to pain, but also to pleasure
I must learn how to feel again
